So how does it work?

Click ‘Send money’ on westernunion.com or open the Western Union® app and log in with Touch ID or Face ID. If you are a new customer, first register for free on the website or download our app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
Select the receiver’s country and the amount you want to transfer.
If you want to send money for cash pickup at a Western Union location select ‘Cash‘. To send money to a bank account choose ‘Bank account‘ as the receiving method.
Select Sofort banking’ or ‘Bank transfer‘ as payment method to send money for cash pickup. When you transfer to a bank account, choose ‘Credit card’1 or ‘Bank account’.
Now log in (if you haven’t already done so) and select an existing receiver or enter the name and address of a new receiver. If you want to send money to a bank account be sure to also enter the receiver’s account details.
You’re almost there! Confirm your bank account and complete your money transfer (e.g. with Sofort banking) or pay with your credit card (issued by a German bank). If you send money to a bank account, you can also pay for your transfer with your bank account (e.g. via online banking).
Do you want to pay for your money transfer in cash? Simply select ‘Pay in-store’ on the app and after completed, head to your nearby participating agent location with your photo ID and cash within 12 hours to make the transfer.
Remember to provide the tracking number (MTCN) to your receiver so they can pickup the money in cash (if chosen) – and you can both easily track your transfer.
Situations may change. We get it. So, we’ve made it easy to switch from a cash pickup to sending money directly to your receiver’s bank account. Follow the necessary steps to update the delivery method. Online updates are only available for select countries at this time*.
1. Log in and view transfer history. Select ‘More’ and then choose ‘Update delivery method’.
2. Fill in receiver’s details. Enter your receiver’s address and bank account details**.
3. Confirm the transfer. A receipt will appear showing if your delivery method has been updated.
*Valid only for westernunion.com or Western Union® app money transfers sent to India, Pakistan, United States, Philippines, Thailand and Turkey.
**Please make sure that the receiver’s name accurately matches the details of the bank account owner. (Account details may vary by country.)

Head directly to the counter with your ID and bring your receiver’s details with you. If you want to send money to a bank account, you’ll also need your receiver’s account information.
Pay the amount (including transfer fee2) you want to send in cash. If you transfer money directly to a bank account, you can also pay with a debit card issued by a bank in Germany (at participating Western Union agent locations).
Done! You will get a receipt with your tracking number (MTCN). Share the MTCN with your receiver so the money can be picked up quickly and reliably.
