What do I need to send a money transfer online to India from Hong Kong?

To make a money transfer to India from Hong Kong you need:

  • The receiver’s full name (as it appears on their ID) and address.
  • Their account number or UPI ID when choosing to send to bank accounts.
  • Purpose of the transfer.

When you first register online with Western Union, you can send up to 7,500 HKD without verifying your identity. If you intend to send more, you will need to upload a government-issued ID to complete your identity verification.

How do I send money to India from a Western Union® agent location?

To transfer money to India from a Hong Kong agent location, simply:

  • Search for an agent location close to your home.
  • Take a valid government-issued ID to the counter. You’ll also need to show your receiver’s bank and account details.
  • Pay cash for your remit to India.
  • Read the tracking number (MTCN) on your receipt, which can be shared with your receiver to follow their money.
